Huawei releases the Internet of Things operating system Liteos to create a unified standard and platform

Huawei predicts that by 2025, the number of IoT devices will be close to 100 billion, and the newly deployed sensors will reach 2 million per hour. However, today's networks based on 'interconnected' demand clearly cannot meet the diverse needs of hundreds of billions.

At the 2015 Huawei Network Conference, Huawei released the operating system for the Internet of Things, Liteos. Xu Wenwei, president of Huawei MarketTIng, said: "The rapid development of Internet applications is benefiting from the standardization of ICT infrastructure. The development of Internet of Things applications will follow the same path. Under such an idea, Huawei released an operating system for the Internet of Things. Liteos."

Make smart hardware development easier

The IoT era of “connecting everything” has arrived, and various application scenarios represented by smart factories, car networking, smart cities, etc., can be expected to profoundly change all aspects of our lives in the near future. As the basis and carrier of “connecting everything”, intelligent hardware plays an important role in it. Intelligent hardware development plays a positive role in further optimizing and expanding intelligent hardware functions.

However, the current threshold for developing intelligent hardware is still relatively high. First, you need to choose the right hardware platform; secondly, the software level, including various connection access, interconnection, power control, secure transmission, and cloud connection; etc. Finally, consider the various ease of use in intelligent hardware deployment. Sexual problems. This requires developers to understand chips, hardware, various software technologies, etc., to exclude a large number of creative developers.

In order to reduce the development threshold of intelligent hardware and enable more developers to innovate quickly, Huawei launched the open source Liteos, which reduces the development threshold of intelligent hardware, enables the Internet of Things to have a unified open platform, and promotes the entire industry with partners. Standardization. Its slogan is: Make smart hardware development easier.

What is Liteos?

According to reports, Liteos is running on resource-constrained hardware platforms such as MCU and Cortex-M. ROM and RAM resources range from 10KB to 10+MB. Liteos is mainly used in intelligent hardware such as smart home, wearable, car networking, smart meter reading, industrial Internet and other IoT fields. Data acquisition and real-time control are typical environments.

Based on the Liteos open source community, Liteos reduces the threshold for intelligent hardware development from hardware development, software development, and product deployment.

Make hardware development easier. The Liteos open source community provides chips, modules, and open source hardware boards (see Figure 2). For example, HiSilicon's PLC chip HCT3911, media chip 3798M/C, IPCamera chip Hi3516A, and LTE-M chip, etc., developers can also choose third-party chips, such as STM32. Liteos can run on a variety of intelligent hardware boards developed by community partners for different applications and domains, and developers can choose as needed.

Make software development easier. Liteos provides a complete software stack with kernel, middleware components and open APIs to make software development easier.

Make smart hardware scale deployment easier. IoT intelligent hardware does not have display screens and input devices. The main problems to be solved in scale deployment are configuration and networking, such as smart homes, highway street lights, and so on.

A fully open source open source community. The Liteos code is open source and builds an open source community of players including chips, modules, open source hardware, makers, and software developers. The open source code is hosted on GitHub (https://github.com/OIOTC/Liteos). All types of players can join the Liteos open source community to build a prosperous software ecosystem.

It is understood that at present, Liteos has some application cases. For example, the application of Liteos on the car, based on the elastic kernel and unique scheduling mechanism, meets the requirements of high stability and low power consumption of the car; the application of Liteos smart home module/device, through the heterogeneous network protocol stack and unified profile It realizes the interconnection and interoperability of different household equipments; Liteos' application on sports DV is based on the unique decentralized loading and dynamic loading technology to achieve the "1S cold start, while meeting the low power consumption requirements of the products, effectively extending the use time.
