Infineon introduces the world's smallest new generation GPS receiver front-end module

In order to meet the requirements of the growing mobile GPS market for higher sensitivity, higher immunity, and lower power consumption, Infineon Technologies AG has recently introduced the world's smallest new generation GPS receiver front-end module. The new BGM781N11 can further improve GPS sensitivity, so that mobile phones, personal navigation devices and other handheld systems and vehicle GPS applications can meet E911 emergency call positioning requirements. The module contains all the main components to amplify GPS signals and filter out interference signals. Its size is only 2.5mm x 2.5mm x 0.7mm, which is more than 60% smaller than the closest competitive product with similar integration.

The BGM781N11 GPS receiving front-end module is integrated in a small, pinless TSNP11-2 package, integrating a GPS low noise amplifier (LNA) and two surface acoustic wave (SAW) filters with excellent ESD protection. With the BGM781N11, GPS applications require only two external passive components, while competitive solutions usually require 6 to 10 passive components. As the functions of new-generation high-end mobile phones continue to increase, PCB space has gradually become the main limiting factor, so front-end modules that are smaller in size and do not require too many additional components are popular. In addition, BGM781N11 has extremely low power consumption, only 5.94 mW, and the voltage range is between 1.5V and 3.6V.

In order to minimize the ESD damage of portable electronic products, BGM781N11 has extremely strong ESD protection performance. The RF input pin has 8kV ESD contact discharge protection function, which allows GPS equipment manufacturers to easily meet the ESD requirements of the system (generally 8 kV) without using other ESD protection equipment. To meet the requirements of the mobile GPS industry for higher sensitivity, Infineon ’s GPS receiver front-end module achieves a gain of 18.6dB, which is more than 20% higher than the competitive solution ’s 16.5dB.

Mi-chael Mauer, Senior Marketing Director of RF and Protection Devices at Infineon Technologies, pointed out: "Market experts expect GPS to penetrate further into various applications and devices. At least one third of all mobile phones manufactured in 2011 It will have GPS function. In the future, GPS will become the standard function of next-generation mobile phones. Infineon will continue to work on the development of a fully integrated high-performance GPS receiver front-end module product portfolio. With the GPS receiver front-end module BGM781N11, Infineon will further consolidate Have gained their leading position in the GPS market. "
