Intersil Corporation has announced the launch of an innovative, ultra-small package of environmental and infrared light sensors - ISL29035. It is the industry's smallest 6-pin digital optical sensor with high sensitivity and wide-angle optical response to meet the precise detection of various light sources in handheld devices, personal computers, televisions, and industrial displays. With the ISL29035, various electronic devices with displays can automatically adjust the display brightness according to the ambient light conditions to improve the user experience and extend battery life. The ISL29035 sensor offers market-leading, wide-angle light response characteristics, with light intensity reduced to half as small as +/- 35%. Its wide dynamic range of lux from 0.01 lux to 64,000 lux enhances the user's visual experience and minimizes screen power consumption. The optional lux range of the ISL29035 allows the user to use the software to adjust the brightness of the display to suit a variety of ambient light applications, such as light intensity in the room at night, during the day, and strong outdoor sunlight.
The ambient light sensor's advanced auto-calibration photodiode array can simulate the human eye's response curve with excellent infrared light suppression. An on-chip charge-balanced 16-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) suppresses 50Hz and 60Hz flicker caused by artificial light sources.
In addition, the ISL29035's integrated ADC directly converts the illuminance analog signal directly into a digital signal and is connected to the system processor via an on-chip I2C (SMBUS-compatible) interface.
