Maxim touch ICs can support up to 15-inch capacitive touch screens

At the just-concluded 2011 World Conference on Mobile Communications, Maxim released two new projection capacitive touchscreen controllers, the MAX11855 and MAX11871, to expand the existing product line. The MAX11855 and MAX11871 support 4-point and 10-point touch detection, respectively, and offer industry-leading sensitivity and noise rejection, as well as ballpoint/stylus and gloved touch.

Finger-Touch Display on Low Signal-to-Noise Ratio Devices The MAX11871 is a mutual-capacitance touchscreen controller that can simultaneously detect and track 10-finger touches with approximately 60dB of signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) performance, with comparable ratios of touch and non-touch surfaces. At 1000:1. A single chip can support a 7-inch capacitive touch screen, while a multi-chipset solution can support a 15-inch capacitive touch screen, making it ideal for small and medium-sized applications such as smartphones and tablets.

The MAX11871 uses a proprietary architecture that eliminates the need for external components to suppress the noise (over 40dB) of external sources such as AC USB chargers, LCDs, or CFL lamps. This higher sensitivity allows the device to be used in next-generation on-cells with high LCD noise (embed the touch panel function between the color filter substrate and the polarizer) and in-cell (the touch panel function Embedded in liquid crystal pixels) touch screen.

The MAX11871 also features extremely low power consumption, 10uW in sleep mode, 10mW operation, and a 10ms fast response time.

It is understood that the MAX11871 has passed Windows 7 test certification, and is currently actively working with international manufacturers and touch panel manufacturers to launch products as soon as possible.
