The representative of the "Yellow School" is now the mainstream high-pressure sodium lamp, because it is economical and energy saving, and at the same time it has excellent fogging performance, so it has become the mainstream street lamp selection in China. In spite of this, Huang Guang also has its own drawbacks that cannot be overcome: it is poor color reproduction. All people will have the impression that under the sodium lamp, the color of any object being photographed is yellowish and distorted, which makes the nights of the colorful city “eclipsed” quite a lot.

The goal of the "White School" is natural sunlight. Because it has the best color performance capabilities, and the sun is a warm white light. Therefore, if you can achieve similar white light and daylight, and at the same time take into account the advantages of economic and energy saving yellow light, it will be the ideal night lighting choice. The predecessor of the “White School” was a quartz metal halide lamp. Although it possessed more than three times the color performance capability than Huang Guang, it was also not used on a large scale because of some insurmountable technical problems. Therefore, in this round, the "White School" did not win the "Yellow School".

With the energy crisis and the greenhouse effect becoming increasingly serious, it has great potential for popularization.

The advanced concept of warm white light was first proposed by the world-famous lighting company Philips, and has been widely used in the United States, Britain, Belgium, Norway and other countries.

At present, China is also faced with the problem of how to choose a new generation of street lights that are brighter and more energy-efficient. In order to adapt the system to China's national conditions and accumulate the necessary data for large-scale applications, Philips Lighting and Fudan University have started scientific research and analysis since the beginning of 2006 on the introduction of this system into China.

With the support and cooperation of the Shanghai Electric Power Company, at present, this warm white road lighting system has been installed in the traffic lane of Shanghai’s major traffic lanes on the Caoxibei Road and the bustling commercial street Qipu Road, and has entered the test phase.
