Sony invests in the next round of hosting platforms

Masaru Kato, the company’s chief financial officer and executive vice president, was asked yesterday at an investor’s meeting when the high R&D expenses were:

"The PS3 is still alive as a home entertainment device, but the platform decides everything. When it comes to the next generation of platforms - when and in what form I can't even say it - but its development work has already begun. It's no surprise that the related costs ."

Kato's reply is in agreement with the speech made by Kazuo Hirai, CEO of SCE, three months ago. The latter said that the PS3 is still only in the middle of the 10-year life cycle. The PS4 or the next generation of home consoles is still quite far away. There is no need for discussion."

Nintendo's new host will be unveiled next month at the E3 show.

In addition, Sony confirmed that the PS3 exclusive masterpiece "Response 3" will take the lead on September 6 to meet players in North America (September 9 in the UK and Ireland; September 7 in other parts of Europe).

The work will be released in two limited editions: a special edition and a survival version. The former has a tin box, and the blue silk screen is a retro vinyl model. The latter comes with a canvas bag, a target paper, a free battle soldier, a hero's diary, a SRPA flat pot, and SRPA poker.
