The first generating unit of the Nuozhadu Hydropower Station in Yunnan will be put into operation in July next year

According to reports, the Nuozhadu hydropower station is a key project for China's “West-to-East Electricity Transmission” and “cloud-to-electricity delivery.” The power station is located in the Pu'er City in the lower reaches of the Minjiang River. It is the fifth grade of the "second warehouse and eighth grade" of the cascade planning of the middle and lower reaches of the Minjiang River.

The power station is the fourth-largest hydropower station built and under construction in China. The total installed capacity of the power station is 5.85 million kilowatts, and the guaranteed output is 2.406 million kilowatts. The annual power generation is 23.912 billion kwh, equivalent to saving more than 956 million tons of standard coal for the country each year. Reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 18.77 million tons. The total capacity of the power station reservoir is 22,741 million cubic meters, and the storage capacity is adjusted to 113.35 billion cubic meters, equivalent to the storage capacity of 16 Dianchi Lakes. The Nuozhadu Hydropower Station attached great importance to environmental protection during the preparation process. The entire project includes the establishment of a rare plant protection park, a fish breeding station, and an animal rescue station. It entrusts professional units to carry out environmental protection and water conservation monitoring. It also carries out environmental protection work such as net catching of dams, water and soil conservation, and domestic production wastewater treatment to ensure that the power station is located. The impact on biodiversity is minimized. After generating power for all power stations, compared with coal-fired power generation, it is equivalent to saving more than 9.56 million tons of standard coal annually and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 18.77 million tons. The person in charge of Huaneng Qijiang Hydropower Co., Ltd. stated that Nuozhadu Hydropower Station must be a “green power station”, “environment-friendly power station”, and “environmental water conservation demonstration project”.

In addition, the power station project has high design and technical indicators and complex geological conditions. Its dams, spillways, and underground powerhouses have been ranked among the top in the world for design specifications. The gravel-compacted clay cored rockfill dams are in the same dam type. It is the first in Asia and the third in the world; it is the largest in Asia in terms of open spillway, and it ranks first in the world in flood discharge power and flow rate.
