Korea actively promotes large-scale LED lighting export program

According to relevant agencies and industry experts, Korea’s Guangzhou City, KAPID and local companies are currently carrying out LED lighting export plans for tens of billions to hundreds of billions in Malaysia, Russia, and Vietnam. The plan is led by a corporate self-government organization and corporate revitalization organization, and is jointly promoted by multiple companies. Therefore, the possibility of success is extremely high, and it will have a positive impact on the Korean LED industry's overseas expansion into the future.

At present, Korean companies are planning to build a low-carbon and green-growing city in Malacca, a state of about 500 billion won (about US$442 million) in Malaysia. Gwangju Governor Jiang Yun promoted this plan too much, visited Malaysia, and signed an urban friendly exchange agreement with Malacca State. Korea Photonics Trade Group (PTG) and Malacca State Government Investment Promotion Agency have also signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOU) for LED demonstration projects in Malacca State.

Through this business, South Korean companies plan to renovate 11.2 million urban street lamps for 2.8 million street lamps in the Malacca state, cost 460 billion won, and spend 48 billion won on the Malacca River to set up 4.5 km of LED landscape lighting. The total cost is 500 billion won.

If the Revitalization Council signs a formal business contract with the Malacca government and focuses on related companies such as Gwangju, it will be able to form an international consortium to participate in the business plan and use the co-brand Luxco to enter the overseas market. After the formal operation of this business, in addition to the staged promotion of the public institutions and advertising facilities in Malacca to reinstall the LED, it will also expand the popularity of LED lighting in the entire region and Southeast Asia.

The first phase of the revitalization meeting also actively responded to the 25 billion won investment project in Russia, and set up 12,000 LED street lights on the fourth ring road outside Moscow. This undertaking promoted by the Russian government will allow South Korean LED industry players to take the opportunity to attack the Central Asian market, which amounts to more than several hundred million won.

In July 2010, the Korea Photonics Industry Promotion Association and the Russian Energy Agency signed a memorandum of cooperation on LED cooperation between Korea and Russia, and reached an agreement in the near future to form a Korea-Russia energy efficiency reform center to enhance and innovate energy efficiency. In order to explore and seek Korean-Russian industry nurturing policies and cooperation programs, a seminar will be held to discuss in depth the various laws, standards, and technologies necessary for Korean companies to enter Russia.

In addition, in order to obtain the LED street lighting and landscape lighting business in the emerging cities of Vietnam, Korean companies will also invite senior officials of the Vietnamese government to Gwangju to learn about Korean LED technology. In addition, Mongolia will also use government-related personnel as its target to promote LED street lamp demonstration and replacement. The revitalization society stated that although such a business is only started on the scale of a few 10 billion tens of billions of dollars, once a formal contract is signed, it will be possible to grasp the undertaking power of the signatory countries, and it is equivalent to grasping the order of hundreds of billions of won.

Ding Zhongde, the director of the Korea Optical Industry Promotion Council, said that most Korean LED companies are small and medium-sized companies and it is difficult to directly conduct overseas marketing. Therefore, the revitalization committee decided to jointly carry out overseas planning to win orders. Due to the considerable results already seen in some countries, South Korean LED companies will have an active performance sooner or later when they export to overseas markets.
