Elpida: Raising DRAM Chip Prices Next Month

According to Taiwan media reports, Elpida President and CEO Yukio Sakamoto said recently that they plan to increase the price of DRAM chips in early March, given that the supply and demand of the memory market will tend to balance.

Sakamoto Yukio also cited as an example the 2Gb DDR3 chip will grow from the current 2.10 US dollars to 2.30-2.50 US dollars.

He repeatedly stressed his optimism about the memory market. Yukio Sakamoto believes that as PC makers are willing to buy large quantities of goods and the inventory levels of agents are declining, the DRAM market demand will start to pick up in March.

And in the background that many chip suppliers shift more production capacity to NAND flash memory chip production to ensure the demand for smart phones and tablet computers, DRAM chip supply is likely to decrease, which will lead to DRAM chip prices began to rise in March.

Previously, Yukio Sakamoto also stated that the DRAM inventory level of PC OEMs will be reduced from 0.9 months to 0.8 months after mid-March, and the 2Gb DDR3 chip futures price will likely rise by nearly 3 US dollars in March.
