Micron shifts semiconductor manufacturing lines to LED manufacturing

USA - Micron Technology ( http:// ) has received $5 million federal economic stimulus grant which will help it to pursue manufacturing of LED devices, reported Idaho, USA.

According to the report, the semiconductor manufactuer believes the venture could bring significant revenue and employment growth over the next few years.

The company and state officialis said the grant will allow the company to produce a pilot line of products in an attempt to transform the LED-manufacturing industry with its cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturing expertise.

The company is said to have been exploring the project over the past nine months. It already employs 30 people full-time and others part-time on the venture.

Idaho Gov. CL “Butch” Otter and Idaho Office of Energy Resources Administrator Paul Kjellander announced the news at the Idaho Innovation Summit at Boise State University. They signed a contract with Micron Vice President of Process R&D Scott DeBoer. DeBoer said the “timing is Quite good" for the company to enter the LED sector, which is expected to grow from $4 billion via last year to $12 billion in 2012.

Tension Compression Force Sensor

Miniature Force Sensor are designed for compression and tension and known for their small package size. They are used in tight and limited spaces. Miniature load cells are available in various capacities ranging from 5N to 200KN and in packages ranging from 8mm to 51mm OD. (can customized the Load Cell size) , the force sensors are widely used in Medical applications as well as automation where small size is a must and space is limited. If space is not an issue and higher precision is required then use a pancake style load cell. Rolling element bearing load measurement is an application where load buttons are utilized.
