Second quarter global hard disk storage revenue increased by 20.7%

IDC analyst Liz Conner said that the storage market bottomed out in the second quarter of last year, so the second quarter of this year is not surprising. In the second quarter, the global hard disk storage system market increased by 1.1% compared with the previous period, which is good news.

HP's storage system revenue increased by 33% and its market share increased to 19.3%. EMC, IBM and Dell ranked second, third and fourth. Connor said that the acquisition of 3PAR is unlikely to have a positive impact on HP's storage business in the short term. According to IDC, 3PAR's share in the external storage system market is only 0.78%. In the long term, the acquisition of 3PAR will help HP's storage system business grow.

The external hard drive storage system market grew by 20.4% to more than $5 billion. EMC's market share reached 25.7%, and sales of EMC external hard disk storage systems increased by 40.6%, not counting products sold through partners. IBM, NetApp and Hewlett-Packard ranked second, third and fourth.

Connor believes that the continued growth of data that companies must store will drive the hard disk storage market back to its pre-economic crisis level in 2011 or 2012. According to IDC, the storage capacity of hard disk storage systems sold in the second quarter increased by 54.6% to 3645 PB (1PB is equivalent to 2 50th byte).
