NRG Solar New Mexico 20MW Solar Power Station Put into Operation

In an 85-hectare (210-acre) private land near Santa Teresa, New Mexico, the 20MW (AC) Roadrunner solar power project built by NRG Solar, a subsidiary of NRG Energy, has officially started generating electricity. The company claims this is the second largest photovoltaic power station in New Mexico and is the third largest solar power generation facility under NRG. Roadrunner Power Station has signed a two-year power purchase agreement with local power company El Paso Electric.

First Solar is responsible for the design, construction and procurement of the project's general contracting services, and provides components and single-axis tracking systems for the project. It is expected that Ford First Solar will also provide follow-up operation and maintenance services for the project.

“Not long ago, we just announced that the Avenal solar power project in California was officially put into operation. This Roadrunner solar project is the first solar power project we officially put into use in New Mexico. Our employees have worked hard in the past year. Finally it bears fruit,” said Tom Doyle, president of NRG Solar and NRG’s Eastern Region operations. “We celebrate this milestone with our customers and business partners in New Mexico. Our solar system can use local Adequate solar resources help the state meet its renewable energy goals."
