Sun Gonghang, deputy general manager of ZTE, 5G, LPWA technology is the mainstream technology of the future Internet of Things

On August 18th, Sun Gonghang, deputy general manager of ZTE Corporation, gave a speech on the next generation of IoT communication technology on the theme of “Everything is connected and perceived wisdom” at the “2016 China International Internet of Things and Wisdom China Summit Forum”.

Mr. Sun first quoted the latest survey report to illustrate the development of the Internet of Things. According to Gartner and IDC, the number of IoT devices will reach 16 billion by 2018; Cisco predicts even more daring: by 2020, the number of IoT devices worldwide will reach 50 billion. Accenture's research, one of the world's top five consulting firms, shows that IoT technology will drive real growth in China's GDP. Accenture research shows that the Internet of Things will become a new driving force for China's economic growth, and by 2030, GDP will increase by 1.8 trillion US dollars. By 2030, the manufacturing, public services and resource industries will account for more than 60% of China's total economic growth driven by the Internet of Things, ranking the top three.

Sun Gonghang said that under the guidance of national policy and market demand, it is expected that China will add 50 million new connections in 2016. These connections are concentrated in four industry markets, including car networking, smart metering, mobile payment and security monitoring.

In the smart meter market, State Grid Corporation and South Network Company have an annual demand of 300 to 4 million wireless public network modules. The current GPRS module accounts for 80%, CDMA accounts for 10%, LTE modules account for 10%, and the LTE module's share shows a rapid increase.

In the mobile payment market, the annual wireless POS market in China is about 600 to 7 million units, of which CDMA module accounts for about 2%, and the rest is GPRS module. In the security monitoring market, wireless security monitoring equipment is transitioning from 3G demand to 4G demand, and the domestic tower monitoring demand of the domestic tower company has exploded.

Mr. Sun believes that the LPWAN technology represented by NB-IoT and LoRa technology will be the main solution, and looking forward to the future, 5G will be the technology that the Internet of Things development relies heavily on. Mr. Sun mainly introduced the NB-IoT and LoRa product solutions of ZTE, and introduced the new products and technologies of ZTE to the audience.
