Notebook card competition: AMD released Radeon HD 6990M

Radeon HD 6990, GeForce GTX 590's "King of the King" has been unusually stagnant, and now there is a similar battle on the notebook mobile platform. Less than two weeks after the launch of the GeForce GTX 580M, AMD announced the new Radeon HD 6990M, claiming to be the fastest notebook card in the world.

First of all, do not be fooled by the name, Radeon HD 6990M is not a single card dual core, but based on a complete Barts core, so more precisely equivalent to a Radeon HD 6870, but the frequency is slightly lower.

Radeon HD 6990M has 1120 stream processors, 56 texture units, 32 ROP barrier units, core frequency of 715MHz (6870 900MHz), single-precision floating-point performance of 1.6TFlops, texture fill rate of 400 billion per second, pixel fill rate of 22.88 billion Every second. It is equipped with 256-bit 2GB GDDR5 memory, with an equivalent frequency of 3600MHz (6870 4200MHz) and a bandwidth of 115.2GB/s.

Technical support is also available, including DirectX 11, OpenGL 4.1, 24x MSAA/SSAA/MLAA, Eyefinity, CrossFireX (dual), OpenCL 1.1, UVD3, HD3D, HDMI 1.4a, DisplayPort 1.2, source code output, and more.

Compared to the Radeon HD 6970M with a simplified version of the Barts core, the Radeon HD 6990M unlocked 160 hidden stream processors, eight texture units, increased the core frequency by 35MHz, and doubled the memory capacity. According to AMD, the Radeon HD 6990M increased its performance by 17%.

In contrast to the GeForce GTX 580M, AMD claims that according to internal tests, the gaming performance advantage of the Radeon HD 6990M at 1920x1080 resolution is as follows (official data need not be too true):
