In the past few years, the two companies have led competing standards organizations to develop IoT products, namely Intel's Open Internet Alliance (OIC) and Qualcomm's "AllSeen Alliance." In the future, the two organizations will cooperate and establish a new standards organization, the Open Internet Foundation (OFC), based on OIC.
This new organization will replace all OIC activities, and current members of OIC will join the new organization. Qualcomm will still participate in AllSeen, and any device that supports the AllSeen standard will support the new OFC standard.
Michael Wallace, senior vice president and senior business executive of Qualcomm, said on Friday: "We believe that fragmentation is the enemy of the Internet of Things. So we are working with companies with similar ideas to invest in the Internet of Things. future."
Another company worthy of attention is Microsoft. Microsoft's previous involvement in the Internet of Things is not much, but Microsoft Windows 10 system has also been specifically designed for low-power devices, and Microsoft Azure public cloud platform also provides customized services for Internet devices.
Terry Myerson, executive vice president of Microsoft's Windows and Devices Group, said: "We helped lead the establishment of OCF because we believe in the vision of this organization and the potential that open standards can bring. Despite the Internet of Things Bringing good opportunities and prospects, but competition between different open standards and closed agreements hinders the spread and innovation of technology."
Myerson also said that all IoT devices running Windows 10 will support the OCF standard.
Other members of the OCF organization include ARRIS, CableLabs, Cisco, Electrolux, General Electric Digital and Samsung.
