CSA Group Acquires Orb Optronix to Improve Solid State Lighting Test Capabilities

CSA Group, a product testing and certification services organization, announced the acquisition of Orb Optronix. Through this acquisition, CSA Group will gain advanced LED and lighting testing capabilities and help accelerate and enhance CSA Group's global solid-state lighting (SSL) testing capabilities.

Richard Weiser, vice president of the US and Mexico division of CSA Group, said: "The acquisition of Orb Optronix is a reflection of CSA Group's core commitment to accelerate the expansion of its business and products in the lighting industry. Currently, we are expanding into North America and the world. The lighting business, therefore, the acquisition is also consistent with the organization's overall strategic growth plan."

Prior to this acquisition, CSA Group has a 30,000-square-foot test lab in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, which can test LEDs and lighting products based on more than 75 different standards, or according to ENERGY STAR. Third-party testing services are required for projects such as LED Lighting Facts? and Designlights Consortium.

CSA Group also offers Energy Efficiency Verification (EEV) services in Cleveland, Ohio and Toronto, Canada. To serve China's lighting product manufacturers, CSA Group's laboratories in Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Shanghai provide LED lighting testing and certification services as well as EEV services.

Orb Optronix offers a wide range of LED test and measurement services through its Kirkland lab. It specializes in characterization, measurement and testing of discrete LEDs, LED arrays, LED light engines, LED replacement lamps and LED luminaires, including IES LM-80-08 LED lumen maintenance test in accordance with VESA standards, IES LM-79 -08 lighting test and flat panel display test. The company serves the LED, optical, electronic display, machine vision, medical, military and solid-state lighting markets, and its customers range from major LED manufacturing companies and start-up lighting design projects that require a new generation of solid-state lighting solutions.

Orb Optronix's engineering services team also offers total solutions to address cross-disciplinary optical and lighting product development challenges, from component and system design to product testing and measurement.

In addition, Orb Optronix manufactures and markets LED test and measurement equipment for the description and evaluation of LEDs, LED lamps and lighting products, including optical measurement systems, electro-thermal-light LED characterization systems, spectroradiometers, spectrometers, Laboratory power supplies and advanced software for LED characterization. The company has 17 employees working in the fields of optics, electronics, mechanical engineering, thermal management and industrial design. Under the agreement, CSA Group will continue to employ all existing employees of Orb Optronix.
